Am I a Good Candidate?

Ideal candidates for simultaneous oncoplastic reduction are breast cancer patients whose oversized breasts cause chronic neck, back, or shoulder pain; posture issues; rashes; and painful bra strap indentations in the shoulders.

Patients who have cancerous tissue in more than one part of their breast are not good candidates for this procedure. Additional, patients whose cancerous tumors are near the nipple-areolar complex may not be ideal candidates for this treatment option.

The Procedure

At the start of simultaneous oncoplastic breast reduction, anesthesia is administered to ensure patient comfort. Incisions are created, and the cancerous tumor is removed. Glandular tissue and fat are removed, and excess skin is trimmed away. The tissues are tightened for a lifting and reshaping of the breast. Once the desired results have been achieved, the incisions are closed with sutures.

Healing and Recovery

The exact details of the recovery process will vary from case to case, and so it will be vital to follow Dr. Habash’s post-surgical care directions closely. During recovery, it will be necessary to wear a supportive surgical bra and to avoid any physically strenuous activities. Time off from work will be required until the patient is cleared to return.
